The Town of Greater Napanee Celebrates Heritage Week

February 17, 2024

The Town of Greater Napanee is pleased to celebrate Heritage Week from February 17-23, 2025, and Heritage Day on Monday, February 17, 2025.

This year will mark the Town’s 170th anniversary of receiving Village status, a significant heritage accomplishment for any town or city. On January 1, 1855, the Town received Village status after a Royal Proclamation was made by Queen Victoria granting the status a few months prior on September 29, 1854. As we celebrate our 170th Village anniversary, many of our heritage homes and buildings that exist today were proudly standing when the Town received Village status in 1855.

In celebration of Heritage Week, the Municipal Heritage Committee with the cooperation of local businesses will be celebrating the Town’s history by displaying a series of vintage photos in local shop windows. I encourage everyone to look at and admire the photos as they capture glimpses of our historic past.

I would like to express my gratitude to our Municipal Heritage Committee for their dedication and hard work in promoting initiatives that celebrate the history of our Town. While we often look forward to the future, it's important to reflect on our beginnings and recognize how far we've come as a Town since we were granted Village status.

Sincerely,
