Media Release - Greater Napanee Fire Department Launches PulsePoint Respond

October 22, 2024

(GREATER NAPANEE, ON) – The Greater Napanee Fire Department has launched PulsePoint Respond to increase community awareness of emergencies and alert CPR-trained citizens to cardiac arrest victims.

PulsePoint Respond is a 9-1-1 integrated mobile app that is free for residents to download. The app alerts CPR-trained citizens to cardiac arrest victims nearby and informs the community of emergency activity in real-time.

PulsePoint Respond empowers residents to provide lifesaving assistance to victims of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). PulsePoint Respond app subscribers who have indicated they are trained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and willing to assist in an emergency can be notified if someone nearby is having a SCA and may require CPR. If the cardiac emergency is in a public place, the location-aware application will alert users in the vicinity of the need for CPR while also dispatching emergency responders. The application also directs potential rescuers to the exact location of the closest Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

A companion app called PulsePoint AED has also been launched to allow residents to report and update AED locations so that emergency responders, including nearby citizens, can find an AED close to them when a cardiac emergency occurs. Residents can help build the community registry by using PulsePoint AED to describe the location of an AED and add a picture. This information is then staged for local authorities to verify. After that, the AED location data can be made available to emergency call takers and disclosed to those nearby during cardiac arrest events.

Residents can download the PulsePoint Respond app to stay informed on emergency activity in the community and to register as a CPR-trained individual that is willing to assist in the event of a SCA. Further information about downloading the PulsePoint Respond and AED apps is available on the PulsePoint website.
