Media Release - Greater Napanee Community Groups and Organizations Encouraged to Apply for the Atura Power Community Development Fund
July 22, 2024
(GREATER NAPANEE, ON) – Eligible applicants have the opportunity to receive financial support
through the Atura Power Community Development Fund to assist with community projects.
The Atura Power Community Development Fund has been built into the Greater Napanee – Atura
Power Host Agreement. This is a wonderful opportunity for eligible community groups in Greater
Napanee as it provides $2 million over 20 years (beginning in 2014) to help fund community projects.
There is $400,000 in funding available per council term.
The Atura Power Community Development Fund has provided support to various groups and
organizations within Greater Napanee. A few of the organizations that have received funding
expressed the impact that the funding has made in the community and to their organization.
Harmony Lounge & Music Club
“When we launched the Harmony Lounge & Music Club program in October 2022, we had a sense
that the group classes would not only give young people a better chance of succeeding, but that they
would help to drive that sense of community we were hoping for. With patient, and compassionate
instruction, our Level I and Level II guitar students, have succeeded in learning this wonderful, but
sometimes vexing, instrument.”
“Harmony is grateful to the Atura Power Community Development Fund for funding these group
classes which are the lifeblood of our community music school.” – Michelle Hauser, Program
Coordinator & Registrar – Harmony Lounge & Music Club
Hospice Lennox & Addington
“Hospice Lennox & Addington is grateful to have been a recipient of a multi-year grant from the Atura
Power Community Development Fund. The funding, spanning over 3 years, allowed us to focus on
the re-development, implementation and growth of both our caregiver support and equipment loan
programs. The overwhelmingly positive feedback from our community speaks to our programs farreaching
impact. The process to apply for a grant was easy to navigate and the members of the
Community Development Committee were genuinely interested in the projects they were evaluating
and supporting. The Atura Power Community Development Fund provides a wonderful opportunity
that I encourage other organizations to explore.” – Kim Sunstrum, Executive Director – Hospice
Lennox & Addington
Lennox and Addington County General Hospital Foundation
“The Atura Power Community Development Fund has allowed us to support our hospital for capital
improvements and the purchase of critical care equipment, such as scopes, scanners and IV poles,
and most recently our very first Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine. It is with the support of
our community partners that we are able to keep healthcare close to home right here in Lennox and
Addington”
“Our hospital is more than just a building. It’s a lifeline for the health and well-being of our loved ones.
With the support from the Atura Power Community Development Fund we are not only investing in
our local hospital, we are investing in our children, our parents, our friends and ourselves. It is a
testament to the strength of our community. And it shows how together, we can all do our part to keep
healthcare close to home.” – Amanda Chalk, Communications Coordinator, Events and Major Gifts –
Lennox and Addington County General Hospital Foundation
Morningstar Mission
“Morningstar Mission is a charity that raises money for it's many programs and services to support the
marginalized community in Napanee and more broadly Lennox and Addington. The Atura Power
Community Development Fund was able to see the vision we had to make sure we could make much
needed investments in new windows, a new steel roof and other exterior improvements, without
compromising our much needed programs and services. This grant will make sure that Morningstar is
well positioned to continue to serve the community now and well into the future.” – Kevin Alkenbrack,
Executive Director – Morningstar Misson
